La croix de Lorraine

A symbol of the Franco-German friendship which is to be found on the highest point of the "border path", exactly on the border of the two countries. The inspiration comes from the "Cruz de Ferro" on the way to Santiago de Compostela. Each pilgrim places a pebble at the foot of the wooden post surmounted by an iron cross, to relieve himself of his sorrows and worries. Here the post is surmounted by a Lorraine cross. Hikers coming from France place stones picked up from French soil and walkers coming from Germany place stones picked up from German soil. Thus, this growing pile of stones is the symbol of the development of Franco-German friendship.
