Viewpoint Hochburg - Kordel

The viewpoint offers a breathtaking panorama over the Kylltal and the surrounding forests.

Hochburg was once a medieval castle , of which ruins can still be found today. The castle was part of a network of castles that protected the region. It was probably built in the 12th or 13th century.

The castle was probably used as a border fortress and had an important military function . It may have belonged to local nobility who had close ties to the counts or bishops of Trier.

There are still some remains of the walls and foundations , but the castle itself is largely ruined. The location is best known for its beautiful panoramic view of the Kyll valley and surrounding forests. The Hochburg is located on a high rock, which gave it a natural defensive position.

The castle was probably abandoned or destroyed in the 16th or 17th century . Like many other castles in the region, it may have been damaged by wars or simply fallen into disrepair . Local residents may have reused stones and materials for other buildings.
