Schloss Schleiden was originally founded in the 12th century as a castle of the Counts of Blankenheim, the lords over Schleiden at that time. Today, the castle reflects a tumultuous history.
Significantly damaged in several wars, it underwent numerous architectural renovations over the centuries, giving the former stronghold a castle-like appearance. In 1945, it was almost completely destroyed; in 1952, Schloss Schleiden was restored according to old plans, acquiring its present appearance. After several years of vacancy of the building complex, parts of the castle are now used as a restaurant as well as a senior residence. Source: Wikipedia and the city of Schleiden.
