Tour description:
This bike tour in the shape of a figure eight starts at the Pröbstingsee hiking car park in Borken-Hoxfeld. You cycle to the Mariengarden Monastery in Burlo on the Dutch border. Via old smugglers' paths you reach the Dutch Achterhoek. Now you orient yourself to the Fiets-knooppunten. These lead you past old farms to a country estate with fantastic show gardens and a Celtic Koffiehuis. Your next stop is the viewpoint of the Muschelkalk quarry – don't miss the rewarding view into the depths of the Steengroeve. After a few kilometers you will reach the Dutch border town of Winterswijk with its very special atmosphere. The centuries-old Berenschot watermill on the de Bekendelle nature reserve and farmer's cheese dairies just before the "green border" invite you to take a break and taste. The cross-border nature reserve Burlo-Vardingholter Venn forms the natural state border with the Netherlands and is an important moorland area with special flora and fauna. Back in the German Burlo, past the Klostersee and through farming communities, you reach the destination, the extensive leisure facility PröbstingSee at the eponymous manor house.
