Ahreifel and High Eifel Tour

The route starts in Altenahr, which was severely affected in 2021 (flooding of the Ahr). This makes it difficult to determine where exactly the parking lot is located, the starting point is based on a designated parking lot on openstreetmap.org. You follow the route clockwise. The number of meters of altitude is almost 1500 meters (routeYou overestimate the number of meters of altitude). You first cycle through the Ahr valley upstream on the Ahr cycle path to Ahrbrück (this part has been passable again since Whitsun 2023, there is still gravel on roads in some places at junctions of the Ahr cycle path (August 2023)). And then it goes uphill to the Raßberg at an altitude of about 650 meters: a long, wrong flat run-up that turns into a real climb a few kilometers after the village of Kesseling.

At the top of the Raßberg you go into a farm road that leads you through a nature reserve with juniper bushes. At the entrance to Langscheid there is a short steep descent, which immediately turns into an ascent (with four hairpin bends) to Langenfeld . You descend to the village of Acht and then climb to the Hohe Acht, the ascent ends at just over 600 meters above sea level (the actual summit of the Hohe Acht, however, is at an altitude of 747 meters, making it the highest mountain in the Eifel). This is followed by a long descent along the Nürburgring to Adenau.

After crossing the lively Adenau, follow the cycle path over the former railway line in the valley of the Adenauer Bach. It leads you into the Ahr valley and you follow the Ahr cycle path to Liers.
This is followed by a long ascent (first false level, from the village of Obliers it becomes a real climb over six hairpin bends) to Plittersdorf. The descent takes you into the Sahrbachtal. In Kirchsahr you climb along farm roads to the village of Wald . Via Limbach and Houverath you descend back into the Sahrbach valley and then climb north and east of the Sahrbach to the Eifel heights. This is followed by a long descent with five hairpin bends into the Sahrbach valley. You follow the road through the Sahrbachtal to Kreuzberg and the last few kilometers you walk again on the Ahr cycle path to Altenahr.

Please note: At an event at the Nürburgring, the roads around Adenau can be very busy, at a motorsport event at the Nürburgring this can even apply to many local roads in a large area around Adenau.
