Cycling towards Spree-Athens - a stage of the Spree Cycle Path - Discovery Tour

One of the most beautiful cycle paths in eastern Germany also leads through the Oder-Spree lake district and ends on the outskirts of Berlin: the Spree Cycle Path. On the stage from Beeskow to Fürstenwalde, fans of a relaxed cycle tour can enjoy a scenic and varied excursion.

Participants start in Beeskow, where you can bring your bike from Berlin on the RE1 via Frankfurt (Oder) and the RB 36. Once you arrive, you should first take a tour of the venerable town before setting off on the route. The former moated castle, which dates back to the 13th century, offers a sensational view of the area from its 27-metre-high keep. Today, Beeskow Castle offers many events for culture lovers in addition to the archive for former GDR art. The historic market square, the long town wall and St. Mary's Church bear witness to medieval tradition.
The cycle tour now leads directly along the calmly flowing Spree. The flat route is not strenuous and leaves enough time to enjoy the beauty of the river and the riverside landscape with its wonderful natural surroundings. The places that cyclists pass are strung together like a string of pearls. It can happen that otters, foxes or herons dart across the riverbank as you cycle through the area with your eyes wide open. Behind the Kersdorf bridge, there is a wonderful view over Lake Kersdorf. The Oder-Spree Canal, which flows just behind it, is crossed via an impressive wooden bridge for cyclists. The Landgasthof Spreetal with its beer garden and delicious cake in Berkenbrück is well worth a stop. Here you can cool off from the tour with a dip in the Spree. At the end of the stage, you should definitely plan time for a visit to Fürstenwalde Cathedral.
