A beautiful landscape with winding rivers, clear lakes, wide meadows and fragrant forest lies in front of you. You watch the gentle current of the Müggelspree, let yourself be taken along for a moment, then you get back on your bike and the wind tickles your nose. You will come back particularly relaxed from this late-riser round tour at the gates of Berlin.
Your cycling experience on Löcknitz and Spree:
Relaxed: easy half-day tour through the Müggelspree-Löcknitz forest and lake area Hidden: discover magic places on the near-natural Löcknitz and Müggelspree Refreshing: swimming in lakes and the clear Müggelspree Enjoyable: many snack stops along the tour
Start and finish: Erkner station
Length: 44 km / approx. 3 hours
Arrival / departure public transport: S5 or RE1 to / from Erkner
Out to the lakes
The train quickly takes you out to Erkner, where your late riser tour begins. You follow the Europaradweg R1 and the Oder-Spree-Tour to the east. It goes to Grünheide and you drive north along Werl and Peetzsee. If you want to turn right into the forest, you can take the Oberförstereiweg through Löcknitztal as an alternative to the official cycle path from Erkner and cycle on a good gravel road to the lakes to the south. We have saved the route guidance as a second Komoot link.
Between the two lakes, there is a first stop-over in the Grünheide public park, optionally also in the idyllic beer garden. There is a beautiful view from the church on the Kellerberg. If you want to jump into the water shortly before: on the north beach Werlsee you have a particularly beautiful view of the lake and the offshore love island from the sloping sandy beach.
With the trout on the Löcknitz
Your tour turns south in Altbuchhorst and it goes through the fragrant forest to Klein Wall. When you arrive at the old water mill, you can even catch the fish yourself at the trout farmers. Even easier: order a delicious fish sandwich at the snack bar.
You are right in the Löcknitztal nature reserve. The Löcknitz flows through a natural paradise in pronounced bends and, together with the near-natural bank area, forms a biotope for many rare animal and plant species (Tier- und Pflanzenarten). 100 species of birds and over 450 species of butterflies live here. At the idyllic resting place at the Löcknitzquerung you can watch the dragonflies dance and listen to the calming splash on the fish ladder. The route takes you on the 66-Seen-Weg to Hangelsberg. There are countless lilies of the valley in the surrounding forest. If you are out and about in May, the air will smell particularly good.
Magical: the idyllic Müggelspree
In Hangelsberg, formerly a popular summer residence of the Berlin upper class, you turn to the Spreeradweg. Again and again there are side trips directly to the Müggelspree, which meanders leisurely back and forth. Cool off your feet, go for a swim or be amazed what the beaver does here in the idyllic meadow landscape.
The Mönchwinkel bivouac site right on the river is particularly beautiful. From the striking wooden bridge you can watch how the water plants sway back and forth in the current in the clear river water. You can find more idyllic spots in Neu Hartmannsdorf, later on the route at the Jägerbude campsite and in Hohenbinde. We have marked the small hideaways on the motorboat-free river as waypoints at Komoot.
Holly's cake paradise
In Hartmannsdorf, Holly's, which is particularly popular with racing cyclists, invites you to take a coffee break with cake. The operator Doris welcomes you to feast and chat together. Their pieces of cake enjoy cult status. Although Doris hardly sees anything, she bakes a huge variety almost every day with a lot of love and devotion - even a vegan and gluten-free variant is included.
Dämeritzsee on the city limits to Berlin
Finally you roll into Erkner, where the tour ends at the train station and the train takes you back to the big city. If you still have energy left, you can continue the Spreeradweg for a good 20 km to Berlin. Or just enjoy the sunset at Dämeritzsee and treat yourself to a sundowner in the beach bar Erkner in a deck chair. You deserve it :)
