On the trail of the stones
The Oberbarnimer Feldstein route leads you through the landscape shaped by the Ice Age. The many rocks that the ice pushed in front of it were collected by farmers in arable and forest areas and served as building material for buildings, dirt roads and roads. The colored minerals of the rocks create the beautiful multicolor of the field stone buildings. The builders used this peculiarity specifically as a decorative element, as you will find out again and again on the tour.
After a short ride on the regional train, you take the R1 European cycle path in Obersdorf, directly into the Märkische Schweiz nature reserve. In the small village of Münchehofe, it is worth making a detour to the Großer Klobichsee. There is a great swimming area and a small snack at the camping park. You can also stop at the natural monument of the drift sand dune. The dune-like elevation was created by the blowing up of sand in the post-ice age. It is very dry so that only sparse vegetation can be seen. At the same time, the sunny sandy areas provide a habitat for many heat-loving insects.
Past the babbling mill flow and the old mill you come to the junction towards Tornow and Pritzhagen. Now you leave the paved bike path and you go on forest paths, sometimes with sandy passages, uphill and downhill every now and then. Before you challenge your calves on the climbs, you can stop at the nature lovers of the environmental center 3 Eichen shortly after the junction. Here you can find exciting information about the surrounding protected areas and the special flora and fauna. The little café also has cakes for you because we give you free refill for your water bottle.

Hidden gems at Tornowsee
The Pritzhagener Mühle lies in front of you like in a picture book. Today's restaurant is lonely and idyllic in the middle of nature on the small Stöbber river. The landlord, famous for his rough charm, serves homemade fish dishes and homemade cakes in the ambience of a Swedish country house style from the 1920s. The spacious garden invites you to linger. There is a fish ladder right next door. It enables the fish to overcome the dam of the former mill. The nearby Haus Tornow is just as idyllic. The mansion is in a secluded location and directly on the Großer Tornowsee, which is surrounded by dense forest. It is a guest house, an art venue and a café at the same time. The summer garden, which is open on weekends, exudes a relaxed atmosphere. Treat yourself to a break, a little refreshment or refreshment with a wonderful view of the lake. If you have brought a little more time with you, you can insert a short hike to the Dachsberg viewpoint. The one-hour detour gives you an impressive view of Märkische Schweiz. Dornberg, Jenashöhe and the Silberberg rise up here and convey a low mountain range atmosphere.

A little rocky, but beautiful!
You leave the wooded areas and go out into the fields. It starts with the beautiful Pritzhagen with its village green, pond and historic buildings that are well worth seeing. Unmistakable: the field stones as the basis for the design of the place.
You continue on partly unpaved field and forest paths, here and there some gravel or sand. This is pure gravel fun! To the left and right there are always idyllic break stations and the information boards set up on the Oberbarnimer Feldstein route remind you that the field stones were indeed a sought-after building material, but were more of a hindrance and time-consuming for the farmers when working in the fields.

Artist location Ihlow
You come to Ihlow, an equally picturesque village with a stone church watching over it. There is a whole ensemble of stone buildings. Lovingly restored and with well-kept overgrown gardens, they stand there so nicely that the ARD has set the comedy series about Police Chief Krause in Ihlow. The place, which has meanwhile developed into an artists' village, exudes a special charm.
If you haven't taken a break yet, Biohof Ihlow is the ideal place to stop over. When the weather is nice, you sit in the garden in a very romantic way. Home-baked cakes & wholemeal bread, fresh salads, soups, and also vegetarian dishes are the offerings of the small restaurant / café. Organic and regional products are available in the farm shop next door.

The tour ends in Strausberg
The tour takes you on to Prädikow and Klosterdorf, as well as handsome villages characterized by stone buildings. On the last section you finally roll on the best asphalt to Strausberg, the destination of your late riser tour. Past the airfield and the old town, head towards Straussee, where you can end the day with a sundowner with a view of the lake.

Plan your late riser gravel tour now!
