Der Medelsheimer

Medium-difficulty tour with a great mix of the typical Bliesgau hilly landscape, magnificent beech forests and a detour via the Medelsheim Way of the Cross in the south-eastern part of the biosphere reserve.

The hike starts at the bus station in Gersheim and leads uphill via the "Sperr", past the Kneipp facility, into the Erzental forest towards Medelsheim. After passing through the forest, the tour leads along the Medelsheim Way of the Cross, which offers great views over the village of Medelsheim and the surrounding area, especially in the morning hours. The route continues into the idyllic village center of Medelsheim with its famous St. Martin's Church. In good weather, the Duser Straße offers great views of the Vosges mountains and the surrounding parr. The route continues to Walsheim, where you pass the Duppstein in the historic town center. Shortly afterwards, the Kneipp facility provides a welcome refreshment before continuing uphill into the forest. The tour continues towards Gersheim, where after the forest passage you cross the typical Bliesgau limestone grasslands with their diverse flora and fauna. With a bit of luck, orchids can be admired here in spring. Caution: please do not walk off the paths! In Gersheim, the tour continues downhill to the bus station, which is the end point of the circular walk.
