FREI.GANG with a view of Calw, Nagoldtal and Heckengäu

This sporty FREI.GÄNGE takes you on a high-altitude and forest hike with numerous highlights. First, the route leads uphill in the shady forest to the Welzberghütte. Here you have the opportunity to take your first break, including a view of Hirsau Monastery in the Nagold Valley - once an important reform monastery. After the Fuchsklinge with the forest restaurant of the same name, follow the Tälesbach stream along natural forest paths to the Welschen Weg. Here you have the option of shortening the FREI.GANG. For the shorter option, turn off to Welschen Häusle and descend via Heumaden back to Calw. If you haven't had enough FREI.GANG yet, follow the Welschen Weg and do the additional loop via Althengstett and the Täfelberg. This second part of the FREI.GANG also has a lot to offer. At the "Tree of the Year Avenue" in Althengstett, you can admire all the trees of the year that have been designated since 1989. Information boards summarize everything worth knowing about the respective tree species. You then leave the forest and walk uphill along the edge of Althengstett towards Täfelberg. At the highest point of the FREI.GANG, you will be rewarded with sweeping views as far as the elevations of the Nagold and Teinach valleys. The route now heads back towards Calw through flower-filled meadows with hedges and fruit trees. Passing the Welschen Häusle, an old Waldensian refuge, you reach the last vantage point of the FREI.GANG. From the high rock that rises above the town on the Kapellenberg, you can look out over Calw and the Nagoldtal valley. Back in Calw, cozy cafés and restaurants invite you to take a break. The market square with its beautifully restored half-timbered houses provides the ideal backdrop for a leisurely end to the FREI.GANG.

Trail character:

Through forests and meadows, you walk mostly on well-surfaced, wide forest and meadow paths. Along the Tälesbach stream, the FREI.GANG follows a rooted, natural path. You can easily deviate by leaving the path to the side. In the villages, the FREI.GANG runs on asphalted paths.

The town center of Calw offers numerous places to stop for refreshments (bistros, cafés, restaurants) for every taste.
