Altburg - Oberreichenbach - Altburg

A less strenuous, varied high-altitude hike with plenty of views of the cultural landscape, opportunities to stop for refreshments in the high-altitude villages, but also quiet passages in the coniferous forest. Here we encounter the settlement structure of the former forest villages. The reddish tones of the Upper Bunter Sandstone weather into a relatively fertile soil that allows agriculture. Where the settlers in the 11th and 12th centuries risked their lives to clear the forests with their simple tools and set up their hooves, we now enjoy brightly colored meadows, cultivated fields and magnificent views across the countryside to the Swabian Alb instead of extensive forests. From time to time, we see tree-covered stone bars reminiscent of the former hoof boundaries. After a lot of open countryside, we repeatedly immerse ourselves in aromatic, fragrant coniferous forest on idyllic nature trails.
