The 550 hectare Nemitzer Heide has developed on the burned areas surrounding the small village of Nemitz after a forest fire in the Gartower Forst in August 1975. An exhibition in the Nemitzer Heidehaus informs about the cultural and natural history of the Nemitzer Heide. Today, it is an important landscape for nature conservation and provides habitat for many endangered plants and animals, such as whinchats and nightjars. The Heidschnucken, also known as the Gray Horned, are in action every day to maintain the diverse and vibrant cultural landscape. You will surely see them, as the hike leads directly past their stable. The Nemitzer Heideblütenfest is celebrated here on the last weekend in August. The town of Trebel is known for its fairs, which have played a significant role in Wendland since 1548. At the Kiekemarkt in spring, the farmers bride was scrutinized, and in autumn at the Griepemarkt, she was seized. The Trebeler Feldsteinkirche and the circular village of Marleben are also culturally interesting points on the hike through the heath.
