Around Kalbe (Milde) - A bike tour to Dolchau Mountain

The tour to Dolchauer Berg is a section of the Milde-Biese-Aland Tour and very scenic.

Directions

Our journey begins at the bike station at the castle, between MEDIAN Clinic and nursing home.

Just behind the bike station towards the nursing home, a path turns left. After leaving the park, we cross the road to Neuendorf and pass the Kreuztannen until we reach the Milde. Then we follow the path along the Milde to the Goliath Bridge. The Milde was straightened at the end of the 18th century, continuing until the Goliath Bridge.

We turn right and continue along the Milde. We follow the path until we reach the connection between Karritz and Butterhorst. Please turn left here and continue towards Butterhorst. We cross the village, then turn left towards Altmersleben. Butterhorst, the name Horst comes from a valley elevation in the original valley of the Milde. During floods, the residents of Butterhorst used to catch fish on the village street. Just after Butterhorst, we turn right before the bridge over the Untermilde. We follow this path until we come across a path coming from the left. Here we turn right, then left at the next bend. We now drive parallel to the Milde, enjoying the beautiful nature. At the 2nd bend, we turn left and can already see the town of Vienau on the edge of the Kalbe Werder. In Vienau, we follow the signs towards Mehrin. Here you can visit a well-known restaurant, the Mehriner Landhotel.

From Mehrin, we continue towards Dolchauer Berg, the highest elevation of the Kalbe Werder. According to legend, a giant lived here in ancient times, throwing large boulders and causing havoc in the area.

From Dolchauer Berg, we then return to Mehrin in a circular route. From here, please follow the map again. We then turn right towards 7 Quellen and Altmersleben. In Altmersleben, we arrive at Mühlenberg. Regular motocross events take place here.

We continue towards Kalbe, where the road makes a sharp left turn, we turn right. Up the hill and once at the top, we turn left towards Vahrholz. This path was the official road from Kalbe to Altmersleben until 1885. In place of the current road, there was only marshland. About 100 meters towards Vahrholz, there is a small seating area on the right. Here, you can take another short break. In Vahrholz, you can visit the fieldstone church by prior arrangement.

We drive through the village towards Kalbe (M). Just before crossing the old railway line, you can take a quick look to the right. There is the Galgenberg. On this small hill stood the gallows of the court of Kalbe (Milde) in the past. On July 10, 1595, two alleged witches were burned here. We cross the old railway track and then turn left onto the main road to continue towards Kalbe. Before that, we cross the bridge over the Untermilde or Flotte.
