Description

The Great Circular Trail Hiking Connects runs along the scenic beauties of the Kleiner Fallstein between Hornburg and Osterwieck. With few ascents and descents, the hiking trail is almost always flat, mostly on natural paths that require a little attention. It offers wide views to the south towards the Harz Mountains and to the north towards the Elm. Due to its length, a little endurance is required.

Route Description

Starting in Hornburg, the trail runs along the ridge path to the nature reserve Kleiner Fallstein towards the east. The hiker passes a section of the former German-German border with its border fence and accompanying border tower, and crosses the Kleiner Fallstein with its old oaks and hornbeams. The route continues through the southern area of the Großer Fallstein and then back towards the west. At Hoppenstedt, you can admire a former limestone quarry and in spring the Adonis flowers. The quarry is a particularly valuable geotope and protected as a natural monument. The last kilometers back to the starting point run parallel to the Ilse River. The circular trail can also be hiked from Osterwieck.
