Description

The Garden Dreams are 50 historic parks and gardens in Saxony-Anhalt that describe the history of garden art and various types of gardens.

Start your cycling tour in Magdeburg and ride along the waterway intersection to Burg with its four former garden show areas. Learn on your way who inspired Theodor Fontanes Effi Briest and visit the late Romanesque Jerichow Monastery. The route continues through Bismarcks birthplace Schönhausen to Tangermünde with its medieval cityscape. On your way back, discover Briest with its Renaissance palace and landscape park, as well as Tangerhütte with its city park. End your journey in Magdeburg with a visit to the Elbauenpark.

Route description

Day 4

Jerichow – Tangermünde (approx. 23 km)

From Jerichow, you continue today to Schönhausen Castle, a few kilometers off the Elbe Cycle Path. Only the side wing of Schönhausen Castle is still preserved. Today, the Bismarck Museum is located there. The current estate park, as a combination of the parks around the two castles, was designed as a baroque pleasure garden with some statues.

From Schönhausen, cycle back to the Elbe Cycle Path. Cross the Elbe and arrive in Tangermünde, the jewel of the Altmark - a charming former Hanseatic city. Its worth visiting the castle grounds and St. Stephens Church. Relax in one of the street cafes or try the regional Kuhschwanzbier (cows tail beer).
