The Heideweg starts in Gardelegen and leads through the Garden Dreams: rampart to the Lindenthaler Forst landscape protection area via some old Altmark villages into the heathland.

Description

The Heideweg is one of the Altmark Hiking Nests. It starts in Gardelegen at the Salzwedeler Tor. It is the best-preserved gate of the medieval city fortification. It continues over the Garden Dreams rampart, which forms a green ring around the old town, to the Lindenthaler Forst landscape protection area near the Lindenthal forest inn, via Zienau to Kloster Neuendorf with its Cistercian nuns monastery complex. After crossing the B 188, you reach the heathland at the Kellerbergen and then the Feldscheune Isenschnibbe memorial site. Along Bismarker Straße with a short detour to the Otto Reutter mausoleum in the municipal cemetery, you return to the city.

Route Description

The circular tour takes us through numerous old Altmark villages, meadows, and forests with their own charm, covering about 16 km.

The Heideweg starts in Gardelegen at the Salzwedeler Tor. It is the best-preserved gate of the medieval city fortification. It continues over the Garden Dreams rampart, which forms a green ring around the old town, to the Lindenthaler Forst landscape protection area near the Lindenthal forest inn, via Zienau to Kloster Neuendorf with its Cistercian nuns monastery complex. Travel Information

The Hanseatic City of Gardelegen is located at the federal highways B 71 and B188, which intersect directly in the core city. The rail connection in local transport is provided by the train stations in the districts of Gardelegen, Jävenitz, Solpke, Mieste, and Miesterhorst. An airfield with the status of a special landing site is located on the edge of the core city.
