From March to June, the marsh marigolds bloom in the Drömlingsauen in lush splendor, coloring the landscape in a vibrant yellow. Like all cycling routes through the Drömling, it is designed as a circular route. Although the twenty kilometers can be challenging to ride, cyclists should not be deterred from taking them – a landscape as intact and scarcely developed as that of the Drömling has become rare in Germany. Swan pairs are no longer disturbed in raising their offspring. In spring and autumn, resting cranes and lapwings by the thousands populate the area along the banks of the Mittellandkanal. The Mittellandkanal is an experience in itself, being the longest artificial waterway in Germany with a length of more than 325 kilometers, connecting the Rhine and Oder rivers. The Information House of the Biosphere Reserve at Kämkerhorst also tells the story of this with its exhibition and enchanting experience and educational garden.

Directions

Starting point is the town of Miesterhorst, easily accessible by train and car (B188). Guests are welcome at Café Andrea at the town entrance and the restaurant Zur Schmiede. From the village center with the Peace Oak, we ride a short distance along the B188 towards Wolfsburg. Before the bridge, we turn left off the road and follow the path until we reach the Wilhelmskanal after three kilometers. A small wooden bridge allows crossing. Rustic tables and benches invite you to linger here, and a memorial stone commemorates the expansion of the Hanover - Berlin high-speed rail line.
