Route description

You can start the route in the town of Sandau (Elbe) (refreshment stop) at the late Romanesque brick church St. Laurentius at junction 78. A visit is worthwhile. The church tower, rebuilt in recent years, offers a distinctive view over the Elbe area. You drive towards the Hanseatic city of Havelberg to junction 1. In Havelberg, turn right before the Sandau Bridge onto Rathenower Street and cycle on the roadside cycle path to Jederitz. About 2 km past Jederitz, turn right at junction 2 onto an agricultural road, follow it along the Jederitzer Holz nature reserve to Neukamern. On this road, you can turn right towards Trübengraben and see a weir. Behind it is the Appelhorst. Unfortunately, we cannot guide you directly through the Appelhorst towards Sandau (Elbe) past the weir. You drive back the same way and cycle to junction 20 towards Kamern. There you can admire the Hedemicke, a natural monument. Continue to junction 20 and then onto a roadside cycle path, which leads past the Rahnsee with bathing opportunities and a fishing pond to Wulkau. Once you have passed Wulkau and junction 37, cycle back to Sandau on the roadside cycle path. If time allows, a ride with the motor and cable ferry to the other bank of the Elbe with dining options 2 km away is recommended.
