This hike takes you along the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg trail between Thale and Treseburg, through the most significant rock valley north of the Alps, which has captivated renowned poets such as Goethe, Kloppstock, Heine, Eichendorff, and Fontane. The idyllic villages of Treseburg and Altenbrak were once mining sites. Wendefurth is located near the Rappbode Dam, which boasts the highest dam in Germany.
The starting point of this hike is the central meeting point at the Bodetal Information Center in Thale. From here, head into the Bodetal valley, following the witch and blue triangle markings upstream. After about eight kilometers, passing the Devils Bridge, the Bodekessel, and the Sonnenklippen, you will reach the Bodetal Information Center in Treseburg.
From here, cross the main road straight ahead and follow the signs to Altenbrak, following the mentioned markings. Passing by the Bodeblick Hotel and the Falkenklippen, you will reach the outskirts of Altenbrak. The trail leads between the Jägerbaude restaurant and the Harzresidenz guesthouse over Osterberg to the large parking lot in Altenbrak.
From here, following the mentioned markings, the trail passes by historical mining structures, a historic water bridge, and a trout breeding facility before reaching Wendefurth. Crossing Bundesstraße 81, you will reach the Wendefurth Dam.

Follow A36 towards Thale until the Thale/Friedrichsbrunn/Westerhausen exit, then continue on L240 via Warnstedt to Thale. In Thale, head towards Bodetal for parking for the Rosstrappe lifts.
