Altmarkrundkurs: From Genthin to the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde

The stage from Genthin to the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde is a piece of cultural and natural space of the highest class. The highlights are the Jerichow monastery church on the Elbe and the small town of Tangermünde, where you will spend a wonderful evening.

Description

We drive from Genthin via Schloß Parchem to the Elbe-Havel Canal. We cross this in Mühlenberg with the south-running part and in Parey with the Elbe lock the part flowing to the north. Now we accompany the Elbe to Ferchland and further along the Elbe waters we reach the first special highlight of the day, the Jerichow monastery, which greets us from afar with the towers of the monastery church.

After visiting the monastery, we continue downstream, soon we see the medieval cityscape of the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde.

We only reach this after climbing the bridge over the Elbe and a short drive into the city from the federal road.

Enjoy an evening in the streets with its numerous restaurants in the imperial city and Hanseatic city of Tangermünde, which is considered the most beautiful small town in Germany.

Directions

From Genthin we follow the signposts of the well-marked Altmark round course with the aim of Hohenseeden.

From here we follow the Elbe downstream via Güsen and Parey until we reach Ferchland.

Through the village of Ferchland and along the Elbe oxbow towards Jerichow.

From Jerichow via Fischbeck to the B188 bridge over the Elbe.

Across the Elbe bridge of the federal road, we reach the western bank of the Elbe.

From here, head south a few kilometers until you reach the town center of Tangermünde.
