Short Description

A very beautiful and family-friendly circular tour through the Osternienburger Land with many opportunities to pause and contemplate. Also recommended as an alternative route to the EuroVelo R1 cycle path or as a day trip from Köthen (Anhalt).

Description

The Water | Meadows | Stones - Tour passes by the natural beauties of the Osternienburger Land and is recommended for the whole family. Especially the floodplain landscape of the nature reserve Wulfener Bruchwiesen invites for active relaxation. Lucky visitors might even capture the wild horses and cattle on camera, grazing there to maintain the landscape.

Starting in Köthen, youll first pass by the leisure and holiday village of Großpaschleben, a large leisure farm with a restaurant, farm shop, accommodation, and events. Through Zabitz and Maxdorf, youll reach the village of Drosa. The path in Zabitz runs along the Wartenberg. It is the highest elevation far and wide on an otherwise rather flat land, offering views of the lowlands of the Elbe Urstromtals and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve. In Maxdorf, a stop at the restaurant of the Rittergut Maxdorf is recommended.
For those who prefer to picnic in a quiet place, its best to head to the Großsteingrab Drosa. There you will find a shady resting place overlooking the Osternienburger Land. Another Großsteingrab is located in Wulfen on the Hohen Berg.
From Drosa, continue through the floodplain landscapes of the Wulfener Bruch, passing by the Löbitzsee. The small lake area around Löbitzsee, Neolith-Teich, and Akazienzteich is a true paradise for waterfowl. There is also a small bathing beach at Löbitzsee.

Those interested in hunting may take a detour to Diebzig to visit the smallest hunting lodge in Saxony-Anhalt and the village cemetery with the tomb of Gustav Freiherr von Nordenflycht. He was a well-known royal Prussian forester. Books about the still practiced modern hunting techniques originate from him.

From Löbitzsee, you will finally reach Pißdorf. Here, you also have the opportunity to follow the EuroVelo R1 cycle path, which leads through Osternienburg and Elsnigk to the museum village of Reppichau. The art project Sachsenspiegel in Repichau is an open-air museum that brings the figures of the illuminated manuscript of the Sachsenspiegel to life. Throughout the village, you can admire sculptures, murals, or battle shields.

In the opposite direction, the EuroVelo R1 cycle path leads from Pißdorf back to the Bach city of Köthen (Anhalt). Many sights here bear witness to a rich history: from Johann Sebastian Bach to the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft. The twin towers of the Jakobskirche, built in 1400, visible from afar, invite you to stroll through and explore the lovingly restored old town.
