Freiburg's local mountain - the one that makes racing cyclists' hearts beat faster.
From Freiburg, the route climbs steadily uphill to the start of the Schauinsland. The ascent winds its way up to the Schauinsland pass road with a few hairpin bends. Anyone who rides up the climb without encountering a cyclist is either riding in the middle of the night or in really bad weather. The gradient is moderate. A little steeper at the start and flattens out at the end.
