Description by the author

"You just have to want it and believe in it, then you will succeed," said Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and secured the imperial patent for a steerable airship in 1898. You can find traces of him all over the city.

The Zeppelin Museum, which is home to the world's most extensive collection of airships, is a real highlight right at the start of the tour and will get you in the mood for the history of Count von Zeppelin. Over the new bridge and through an underpass, you pass the ZF Forum, which makes a striking urban accent. After the Rotachbrücke bridge, turn right into Kornblumenweg. At Graf-Soden-Platz, keep left on the cycle path in the direction of the trade fair. Your next destination is the Zeppelin Hangar. This is where the Zeppelin NT takes off on its sightseeing flights from spring to fall. During the flight season, hangar tours are offered on Tuesdays and Fridays. On the terrace of the Zeppelin Hangar FN restaurant, you can enjoy coffee and cake while watching the Zeppelin NT take off and land. After a relaxing stop, the tour continues past the exhibition center through the idyllic Schmitthennersiedlung, a housing estate from the 1930s, to the listed Zeppelin village. In the workers' settlement, which was built at the time when the Zeppelin industry was founded, the show house offers you an authentic insight into the life of the working-class population between 1914 and today (May-Oct., Sun 12-16 hrs). After crossing Riedlepark, you will reach Maybachplatz. There you will find important Häfler companies such as ZF Friedrichshafen, Zeppelin GmbH and MTU Friedrichshafen, a brand of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which emerged from the history of Zeppelin construction. Passing the cemetery, you now head towards Fallenbrunnnen, where the ZF Campus of Zeppelin University is located next to the Caserne cultural center. Turn left directly behind the Caserne. At the junction to Zeisigstraße you will find Obsthof Büchele. You can reach the SeeCampus of the university named after Count von Zeppelin via Windhager Straße in the direction of Seemos.

You cycle back to the city center along the Lake Constance cycle path and pass the Friedrichshafen lido, the castle church and the imposing castle footbridge as well as the well-known Graf-Zeppelin-Haus culture and congress center. The Zeppelin monument with the quote from Count Zeppelin is located in the riverside park. On the terrace of the Zeppelin Museum Restaurant, the starting point of the tour, you can end the evening with a relaxing view over Lake Constance and reflect on the many historical and impressive impressions you have gathered on the trail of Count von Zeppelin.
