Mulfingen is in the fortunate position of being situated in an idyllic scenic location in the heart of Hohenlohe. First mentioned in a document in 980 AD, the town was granted market rights for a weekly market and two annual markets by the Hochstift Würzburg in 1479. In 1802, the Princely House of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein took over the town before it fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg four years later.

The success story of today's Mulfingen is closely linked to the development of Elektrobau Mulfingen (now ebmpapst), which was founded in 1963 and is the world market leader in small fans and small electric motors. The pilgrimage chapel of St. Anna contains a precious late Gothic shrine altar of the holy clan dating back to 1514. Furthermore, numerous proofs of gratitude testify to the healing power of the place. Every July 26 is St. Anna's Day, one of the local public holidays alongside the traditional pigeon and poultry market in February.The beautiful townscape of Ailringen, with its historic town hall, has won several awards in the village competition. The Ailringen cemetery has a rare feature: unlike married people, the deceased who were unmarried during their lifetime are given a white cross on their grave. The bathing lakes with campsite and playground in Hollenbach are a popular excursion destination. The Lourdes Grotto in Zaisenhausen is considered the largest religious grotto complex in southern Germany.
