Wanderweg entlang der Europäischen Wasserscheide Rhein Donau Etappe: von Tautenbronn nach Straß

The Upper Linzgau, and therefore also the communities of the Northern Lake Constance vacation region, is centrally located between the two main waterways of Europe, the Rhine and the Danube. Cultures, customs and dialects have always developed along these rivers, merging and increasingly coming together here in this region.

The hiking trail along the European watershed leads through geologically significant and wonderfully scenic nature with often magnificent views of the Hegau volcanoes and, on a clear day, the Swiss Alps.

This tour allows you to pay special attention to the natural features of the geology, flora and fauna. Informative sculptures have been created at various points along the way to give you an insight into the special features of the watershed. Your route takes you along a line where the great Rhine glacier ended around 15,000 years ago. A soft hilly landscape towards the Danube and steep little gorges (ravines) towards Lake Constance characterize your route. So don't start your hike at the quarry pond in Tautenbronn, but also visit the large monument in the Seepark (west entrance) near the adventure golf course. You should definitely pause in Aftholderberg at the Eulogius Church. With its exposed location directly on the Wasserscheidenkuppe, it is the destination of a large annual procession of St. Eulogius on horseback. If you are interested in rural crafts, it is also worth visiting the Müller family's private farm museum in Großstadelhofen. At the end of your stage, you can pick up the key to the Georgskapelle chapel (16th century) opposite at the Hirschen inn in Straß. In the inn, two historical murals depicting Bachus and Gambrinus bear witness to the border between beer and wine drinkers at the watershed, which can still be felt today.
