Diverse landscapes, cool places to stop for refreshments and a few activities are waiting to be discovered on this "river tour".

We recommend the Neckar riverbank promenade in Heilbronn as the starting point for this family teen bike tour. This means that the world of knowledge and adventure experimenta or the cool city beaches "Kaffeebucht" and Neckarboot are at the end of the tour and are a great reward for cycling.

First you cycle along the "inner-city" Neckar promenade to the waterway triangle, where the Neckar waterway and the (Old) Neckar meet. The choice of the right or left bank of the Neckar depends solely on whether you want to use one of the refreshment stops. On both banks, the cycle path leads out of the city accompanied by plenty of greenery.

The route then continues along the Neckar Valley cycle path to Neckarsulm, the cradle of the former largest two-wheeler manufacturer NSU, whose history can be experienced in the German Two-Wheeler and NSU Museum.

Right at the Audi plant, this suggested tour changes to the signposted KJ7 cycle path. It leads through Neckarsulm Stadtpark and along the Sulm to Erlenbach. On hot days, a stopover here is recommended: since the renaturation of the Sulm, there is direct access to the water, which promises to cool you down. In cooler temperatures, an extensive indoor playground attracts adventurers of all ages.The suggested route follows the KJ7 signs to below the Weibertreu castle ruins at the Weinsberger Rosenkulturen. For sporty adventurers, a detour up to the Weinsberg forest climbing park is recommended here. The extra meters in altitude are rewarded with a great view and, of course, plenty of climbing fun.The only noteworthy ascent of the tour follows from the Weinsberger Rosenkulturen. The Württemberger Weinradweg takes you up to the "Weinsberger Sattel" and back to Heilbronn on the Neckar. However, the fantastic view that opens up at the top of the saddle makes up for the little drops of sweat.

Safety instructions

• In the "Audi-Werk" Neckarsulm area - when changing from the Neckartal cycle path to the KJ7 - the cycle path leads along a busy road (Brückenstraße/Kanalstraße) for a short stretch. The cycle path is a good width and the road crossing is protected by traffic lights. Nevertheless, this section (approx. 200m) should only be used by children who are already safe on the road.
• In the further course in the Neckarsulm city area, the tour leads along independent cycle paths, but still along roads to the Neckarsulm city park (approx. 1.2 km).
• On the section between Erlenbach and Weinsberg, the cycle path runs for a short stretch within the town on a road with little traffic. In the area of the highway underpass, the cycle path runs on a separate route, but briefly along a busy road. Total length approx. 600m.
• In the city area of Heilbronn between Pfühlpark and Neckar, the route is a good section in road traffic. The cycle path only runs as a marked safety strip directly on the roadway on moderately busy side roads.
