Culturally and scenically attractive tour to a witness mountain of the Alb

You can see it from afar when you look to the west on the western Albtrauf or on the Lemberg or when you drive over the Ostbaar, the strange mountain cone in the middle of the landscape between Seitingen-Oberflacht and Hausen ob Verena. It is a popular destination for excursions and refreshments, this "witness mountain" on the Baar at the edge of the Swabian Alb, the Hohenkarpfen. Of course, it is also an absolutely worthwhile destination for hikers, as the mountain's special features can be appreciated above all on the ascent. And this is rewarded with a magnificent view of the Baar, the heights opposite and, of course, the western eaves edge of the Alb.

What many people don't know is that it is geologically part of the Swabian Alb. Millions of years of erosion by water and wind have worn away the more porous layers of rock in the surrounding area. At 909 meters, the Hohenkarpfen is only around 100 meters lower than the Lemberg, the highest mountain in the Swabian Alb in the immediate vicinity near Gosheim. On the edge of the Baar, it is an outstanding feature of the landscape, but is also a special nature reserve.

Many visitors "only" make it as far as the restaurant or the viewing terrace of the hotel on the estate. However, you should definitely climb to the "summit" of the mountain cone (on the designated hiking trails). It is well worth it. Unfortunately, there is hardly anything left of the former castle of the Counts of Lupfen. The Hohenkarpfen is also famous for the museum of the art foundation of the same name. Art exhibitions of particular note, especially works of art by renowned contemporary artists in the open air, right next to the restaurant and hotel invite you to do more than just take a break.
