Around the Knüll, the highest mountain at 636 m, there are fantastic panoramic views in all directions. Whether Vogelsberg, Thuringian Forest, Meißner or Rhön, in good weather you can see as far as the surrounding low mountain ranges on this sunny circular trail. Especially
view from the Borgmann Tower.
High up on the plain of the Eisenberg, the hiking trail leads through meadows; on the steeper side of the Eisenberg, it runs along the edge of the forest and through beautiful, species-rich woodland. The hut at the Rhönblick invites you to linger.
The Christinenquelle spring, first tapped in 1920, is a fabulous place to refresh yourself.
In spring, thousands of wood anemones greet hikers around the mountain inn, and in early summer you might spot an orchid in some of the meadows.
The name of the mountain only hints at its past, but its landscape has much more to tell: several burial mounds, which are still visible today, were built here as early as the Bronze Age. It is also said that one of the hilltops of the Eisenberg could have been a sanctuary of the Holle cult. In the late Middle Ages, the ridges were almost free of woodland as iron mining and charcoal burning took their toll. After a break in mining, alum was finally mined on the Eisenberg in the 17th century. Today, forest has long since covered the ridge again, even if drought and bark beetles have left gaps. Nevertheless, traces of human activity from past decades can still be seen in many places on the Eisenberg. Today, farmers graze the rich mountain meadows with their animals or use them for haymaking. However, most people visit the Eisenberg in their free time. In addition to hiking, you can also go skiing and tobogganing here in winter. The "Eisenberg Panorama Trail" offers a wonderful introduction to discovering the fascination of this mountain ridge!
The "Eisenberg Panoramaweg" fable trail is shown in the overview (Knüll Nature Park flyer) as Premium Trail 17 Eisenberg Panoramaweg.
