Beskrivelse af forfatteren

The Main Cycle Path stretches over almost 600 winding kilometers of the Main with very different landscapes and regional features. The cycle route begins at the sources in Franconian Switzerland and the Fichtelgebirge mountains, runs through the Franconian Forest, the Steigerwald, over the Hassberge mountains and the Franconian wine country before cyclists reach the mystical Spessart Forest. Here, the Main Cycle Path crosses the state border between Bavaria and Hesse and continues along the Hessian Lower Main until it reaches the estuary.

The almost 53-kilometre section of the Main Cycle Path between Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt am Main mostly runs close to the water through the Rhine-Main region. From below Aschaffenburg's Johannisburg Castle, the route passes directly by the narrowest point of the entire Main Cycle Path, a rocky spur on which the Pomejanum is located. Shortly after Dettingen, cyclists reach the Hessian section of the cycle path. After around 18 kilometers, you reach Seligenstadt with its impressive old town and the former Benedictine abbey. From there, it is not far to Hanau. Here, the Main Cycle Path initially runs below the city wall before passing the Red Palace, the remains of Frederick Barbarossa's imperial palace. Philippsruhe Castle and Hanau city center can be reached via the lock in Mühlheim and the Steinheim Bridge. Here there is a connection to the R3 long-distance cycle path and the railroad cycle path. The cycle path continues over the Fechenheimer Mainbogen past Isenburger Schloss Offenbach before the harbor area comes into view. Once in Frankfurt, cyclists have their first view of the city's impressive skyline. On the last kilometer, the route leads along the Sachsenhäuser Ufer and offers a transition to the old town.
