Grumsin Beech Forest was added to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site list in 2011 along with four other beech forests and is therefore one of the most important forests in the world. Whereas the core zone of the district is strictly protected, you can explore no less impressive areas of the forest.

Route description/points of interest:
This varied one-day circular hike for experienced hikers, which can be accompanied by nature guides from the region, starts in the car parking area of the “Buchenwald Grumsin” information point in Altkünkendorf.
This hike takes you around the entire Grumsin World Natural Heritage Site with all its diversity: Lakes, moors, Hallenbuchenwald beech wood. The path first takes you north through Altkünkendorf in the direction of Lake Wolletzsee. From its southern shore it is another half an hour to the Angermünde town forest. You again continue along the shore of Lake Wolletzsee and reach Gehegemühle in half an hour. You continue in a southern direction via the undulating fields of the Schorfheide to Zuchenberg - now you walk through the beech forest - to Lake Großen Plunzsee, where you can take a break on its southern shore.
After another half an hour you reach the Milchschafhof Luisenfelde sheep’s milk dairy. The farm shop sells yoghurt and cheese every afternoon. Now you walk westwards through woodland and undulating fields along Lake Brackensee. A little while later you reach the green hiking trail, which starts in the Geopark information centre and then continue in a northern direction. You walk past Lake Großer Schwarzer See and reach your starting point a good hour later.
