Short description
Hike to the location of the 3600-year-old bronze disc to the Nebra Ark.
Description
Below the visitor center Nebra Ark, the hike begins counterclockwise, the path is lined by fields and forests.
Through a deciduous forest, you reach a striking observation tower. With a height of 30 m and a 10° inclination, it serves as a pointer of an oversized sundial. A vertical cut divides the structure and marks the line of sight to the Brocken: Here, the sun set at the summer solstice, the sky disc could be classified and used as a solar calendar.
The view allows a glimpse of the Kyffhäuser, in favorable weather conditions even the Brocken is visible.
The terrain on the Mittelberg has been carefully designed: you gaze into the eye of the sky and can discover more archaeological sites.
Through a deciduous forest, you hike back towards Nebra Ark. A shelter with a view of the observation tower invites you to take a break. Oaks flank the hiking trail like guardians. A turnoff from the path leads to Memleben, the historically significant location with the Museum Kloster and Kaiserpfalz Memleben. The Unstrut meanders glittering through the valley.
Finally, you reach the Golden Sun Barge. The planetarium in the Nebra Ark shows you the starry sky of the Bronze Age.
