How about you go on a journey of discovery without a car and in a relaxed manner and get to know the eastern outskirts of Berlin from its relaxed side? On this half-day hiking tour, relaxation begins in the tram. The two smallest tram companies in Brandenburg take you instead of through the sea of houses through the green city forest to the popular excursion spots on the Kalk and Flakensee and back again! A hundred years ago, the region around Rüdersdorf and Woltersdorf was the number one destination for city dwellers. Today it is our family late riser tip for you!

This is how it goes to the lake:

Tram experience: once in Finnish and once historically across the city limits into the countryside & back Easy going: short and relaxed hiking tour with a view of the lakes and beautiful gardens Nature and tranquility: "Absolute and fantastic recommendation for this riverside hiking trail" says the Google rating Far and clear: great views and hidden swimming spots on the Kalksee Delicious food at the end: chilled out restaurants and cafés at the Woltersdorf lock
Start: Tram stop Rüdersdorf Marktplatz
Destination: Tram stop at Schleuse Woltersdorf
Length: 6 km / approx. 2 hours
How to get there by public transport: S3 to S-Bhf. Friedrichshagen, then Tram 88 to Rüdersdorf Marktplatz
Exit public transport: Tram 87 to S-Bhf. Rahnsdorf, then S3 to Berlin

Quickly through the city forest and to Rüdersdorf
Your tour starts with tram line 88 at the S-Bahn station. Friedrichshagen (S3). The railroad likes to travel at top speed through the Berlin forest in order to easily measure itself against the cars driving in parallel. Is it because of the Finnish technology? With a little luck you will catch the railcars that were in Helsinki a short time ago and some of them still have labels on Suomi. Get off at the Rüdersdorfer Marktplatz. If you haven't got out of bed too late, you can also stop at the museum park one stop beforehand. The museum of industrial history at the limestone mine has many experience stations that are also worthwhile for families.

On the 66-Seen-Weg along the water
Past the Chau restaurant and the long-established Friedrich bakery, you quickly get out of the center and over the imposing wooden bridge over the Kalkgraben. You now follow the 66 lakes hiking trail marked with the blue dot and suddenly the enchanting view of the Kalksee opens up. Here on the flat east bank of the clear water, which is also very popular with divers, you will always discover small, wild swimming areas and cute resting places. Traces of former excursion restaurants and the old outdoor swimming pool from the beginning of the 20th century can still be seen. Today the Rüdersdorf health campus towers above the lake. Downstairs, right on the water, you have the perfect view of the lake from the long jetty!

Great film and nature backdrop
What you definitely didn't know: Kalksee was a long film location for films. For example, the "Tiger of Esnapur" was created on its banks. Old Rüdersdorfer tell of the animal extras at the lake when elephants played their supporting roles on the set. The hiking trail on the southern reed zone of the lake unfolds a light jungle flair. Then the view opens up to the canal that leads to the Woltersdorf lock. On its banks you can see villas from the 1920s, which still testify to the popularity of the area with well-heeled summer visitors from the nearby metropolis of Berlin.

View up to the television tower
In Woltersdorf you will pass the source of love, which is said to have special romantic powers. Now it's again steeply up the stairs to the 100m high Kranichsberg. It becomes difficult with a stroller, so carry the very little ones better. But from the 3-4 year old adventurers the climb is slow but sure to master. The effort is definitely worth it: high up from the wooden observation tower you have a fantastic view of the Berlin TV tower, over the chain of lakes and over to the Rauener Mountains. Bonus: the tower also serves as a museum (admission € 2, until 5:00 p.m.) and informs you about the unbelievable film history of “Märkisches Hollywood” around Wolters- and Rüdersdorf.

Culinary reward and then home with the iconic museum train
There is a holiday flair around the lock in Woltersdorf and restaurants, cafés and snack bars lure you in to provide you with delicious snacks or refreshments. The offers range from the Liebesquelle restaurant, the Kranichsberg hotel restaurant and snacks to the Schleusenwirtschaft with its own small brewery. Over the lock bridge, the path finally leads you to tram station 87. If you still have to wait: watch the interesting lock activity or an ice cream at the bakery shortens the time very quickly.

A highlight again at the very end: on one of the shortest routes in Brandenburg, the Wolterdorfer tram will bring you back to the big city in lovingly restored, historic cars through the Köpenick forest. You reach the S-Bahn comfortably and totally decelerated in a rattling museum train. Rahnsdorf. You definitely won't have missed your car that afternoon.

Plan your late riser tour to the Berlin garden neighbors in Rüdersdorf and Woltersdorf!
