Starting point is e.g. the campsite in Warnitz on the eastern shore of Lake Oberuckersee. From here, head north into the 5 km long Ucker Canal - the connection to Lake Unteruckersee. Before that, a detour to the village of Fergitz on the western shore of the lake is worthwhile. The Ucker Canal leads through the largest contiguous reed area in Germany. The shores are almost entirely natural, the canoe glides through an original swamp and meadow landscape. The upper section of the river is winding and narrow, sometimes trees line the shore, sometimes the view can sweep over the meadows to the horizon. One or two gradient sections have to be overcome, at low water it can also become rocky. And beaver traces along the riverbed again and again. About 15 km downstream from Prenzlau is the Nieden weir (portage), which is already located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Soon after that, Pasewalk is reached - and a modern water sports rest area. The river now widens, and from here, you can paddle in both directions. Several weirs have to be portaged or boat gates passed until Torgelow. Meadows and forests alternate, sometimes the banks are very high. At the water sports rest area in Torgelow, about 400 m have to be portaged. A little way up the Randow, which flows into Eggesin, there is another water sports rest area. North of the city, the landscape takes on a wilderness character again. The original floodplain landscape enchants with countless old arms, canals, and ancient peat pits. Ueckermünde is reached far too quickly. The 7 km long Lake Unteruckersee can be challenging in windy conditions, if necessary, paddle close to shore! There is a weir at the northern tip of the lake that needs to be portaged. If the water level is too low, navigating the following section can be difficult, and it may be necessary to transport the boat to the bivouac site located about 2 km north of the weir at the confluence of the Quillow stream (accessible via Triftstraße). The crossing of the Szczecin Lagoon should only be undertaken by experienced canoeists.
