Description by the author

The stork tour tells you all you need to know about the stork. Information panels along the route tell you about the stork’s habitats, flight techniques and migration periods. Since the white stork closely coexists with humans, the large bird can often be seen at the Grünewalder Lauch when it flies over the lake from its nest to its feeding territory. You will also pass the Hohenleipischer Wiesen meadows, where water plays an important role. The white stork feasts on the many small mammals, insects and amphibians there. In Staupitz, cyclists are welcomed not just by the storks.
A small herd of goats usually grazes right underneath the stork’s nest, where the white storks have been nesting since 1991. And don’t forget to pay attention to the Suden nature reserve near Gorden! This 90-square metre nature reserve is an over fifty years old spruce forest area. Here you can still come across the occasional king fern, purple small-reed, marsh gentian with its blue blossoms and the rare silver fir. We recommend the tour from Grünewalde to Staupitz via Oppelhain and Gorden.Length: 34 kilometresStart/finish: RückersdorfLogo/route sign: Tour is signposted with a stylised stork in the logo. How to get there:Train: from Berlin-Südkreuz, take the RE5 (Elsterwerda) to Rückersdorf (about 2 hours)Car: from Berlin, take the A13, B87 and B97 to Luckau and past Doberlug-Kirchhain to Rückersdorf (about 1.5 hours)Route: Rückersdorf, Oppelhain, Gorden, Staupitz, Grünewalde, Oppelhain, RückersdorfPossible combinations:Coal, Wind and Water TourSchradeln (Schraden Cycling Tour)Lower Lusatian Mining TourTrail conditions/surface: The tour takes you mostly along natural, flat pathsMaps/Literature: Naturpark Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft / Kurstadt Bad Liebenwerda - Mühlberg - Schradenland, SACHSEN KARTOGRAPHIE; Auflage: 3 (18.
