The defense, wall, and park facilities are a popular circular route of around 3.2 kilometers around the historic old town of Einbeck. The circular route consists of the wall sections Bäckerwall, Krähengraben, Mühlenwall, Bürgermeisterwall, and Langer Wall. Part of the kilometers-long city wall still stands today along the ramparts with two dozen wall towers and five city gates. The towers were built at regular intervals of 60 to 70 meters at the bends of the city wall. The ramparts along the old city wall form a beautiful destination for tourists, visitors, and locals of the city, and provide ample resting opportunities with numerous seating areas. Especially for those who want to take a walk and see some nature away from the timber-framed marketplace of Einbeck, the ramparts are perfect.Today, the city wall along with the moats and ramparts between the former Tiedexer and Hullerser gates is fully preserved.Start of the circular route: Obere KatzeAt the Tiedexer Gate is the Obere Katze, a former bastion for mortar guns. From here, turn right (facing towards the city center) into the Bäckerwall.Between the Tiedexer Gate and the Hullerser Gate is the Bäckerwall with a minigolf course for families and a playground for children. After crossing the zebra crossing at the end of the Bäckerwall, the Krähengraben begins. Along the Krähengraben, on the left side, is the Storchenturm (semicircular tower in the city wall) and also the bastion on the wall (powerful bulwarks). At the end of the Krähengraben, on the right side, you can see the Medieval Water Conduit. There, the mill canal is led over the Krumme Wasser with the adjacent Diekturm. The Diekturm was a powerful bulwark that secured water supply in the Middle Ages. After crossing the water conduit, you will find the Offiziersgarten behind it.After crossing a small bridge over the Ilme and Benser Straße, you will reach the Mühlenwall from the Krähengraben. After a few meters, on the right side, there is a memorial for the Jewish fellow citizens. There used to be a synagogue that was burned down during the Pogrom Night. A bit further (a few steps down on the right side) is the memorial stone former New Synagogue (Bismarckstraße). This commemorates the destruction of the former new synagogue (November 9, 1938). At the end of the Mühlenwall, you will find the Bürgermeisterwall straight ahead.Short detour: If you turn left into Altendorfer Straße at the end of the Mühlenwall and then turn left again into Sonnenhaken, you will see the Pulverturm on the left side. The Pulverturm served as part of the fortification. At the beginning of the Bürgermeisterwall, you can make a right turn over Dr.-Friedrich-Uhde-Str. or a left turn through Stukenbrok-Park / Ball-Ricco-Straße.At the end of the Bürgermeisterwall, the Langer Wall follows. Instead of going around the Stiftsgarten located on the Langer Wall, it is recommended to cross through it.At the beginning, there is the August Stukenbrok Memorial on the left, and the former August Stukenbrok Villa as well as the St. Josef Catholic Church (somewhat hidden) on the right.Crossing through the Stiftsgarten, you will reach the Münsterkirche St. Alexandri. North of this is the Knochenturm (former powder tower later used as a charnel house), which nowadays is only a few meters high ruin, as well as the Totenturm. The Totenturm got its name because it was located near the former cemetery. Now, follow the Langer Wall back towards the starting point. Tiedexer Tor / Obere Katze.Detailed information about the circular route and the individual stations can be found below in the route description and additional information!
