Circular hiking trail No. 4, Brakel-Bökendorf-Bellersen-Brakel
This circular hiking trail takes you through Bökendorf and the tourism model village of Bellersen.
The hiking trail starts at the parking lot at the Kaiserbrunnen in Brakel. You walk along the cemetery.
First, you walk along the cemetery or the edge of the forest. Then you go up a slope in the forest until you reach the paved road. A few meters to the left is the Snow Chapel. It dates back to 1844 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
If you do not wish to visit the chapel, cross the paved road and continue straight through the forest. You leave the forest and in front of you lies the wide valley of Bökendorf, which extends southwards over Hainhausen and Modexen. Beyond the valley, the Bökerberg, Wüllenberg, and Modexer Holz form an impressive background.
Now hike down to Bökendorf, cross the village first mentioned in 965, and follow the Höxter Weg uphill into the field until you reach the height of Wüllenberges. From this vantage point, you can see Bökendorf in the valley, further west Bellersen, and north of it the estate of Abbenburg. In front of you lies the historic site of the "Judenbuche" by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
After enjoying the impressive view, continue your way into the forest and take the left turn. The circular hiking trail leads you near the forest edge onto a field path. From there, descend into the valley and pass by the open-air theater. Attending a theater performance is worthwhile in any weather. You can also visit the Bökerhof castle and walk along the arbor, which Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and the Brothers Grimm have used.
After leaving the arbor, the path leads you along the Lindenallee and the Stations of the Cross to the forest, the Lämmerkamp. Follow the hiking trail in the forest, and when you come out into the open, you will have a view of the vast fields of Bellersen.
Since 1992, Bellersen has been a model tourism village in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Take a closer look at the village and discover, in addition to the hiking trail, the agricultural-historical circular hiking trail, the sensory experience trail, and the many beauties along your way. After visiting Bellersen and perhaps having refreshed yourself, leave the village south of Mühlenkrug and the motorhome site via a narrow bridge. Now hike along the lower slope of Rammelsberg. Enjoy the view of the Brucht valley.
The path leads you, always along the valley slope, through the forest, towards the Sengenthal Forester's Lodge direction Brakel. Then it slowly ascends again to the mountain ridge where the Hinnenburg towers. Then downhill to the Kaiserbrunnen and on the already familiar path, you will return to your starting point.
