Monument Cycle Route Bünde

The Monument Cycle Route is the third themed tour through Bünde and its surrounding area. So far, the city of Bünde has published the Farmers' Bath Cycle Route and the Tobacco Cycle Route. Once again, the history of Elsestadt is the main theme. This time, the focus is on urban development, the impact of economic changes on the construction in the city center, and the rural residential culture in the countryside. Over the centuries, craftsmen and merchants settled alongside agricultural businesses in the shadow of the Laurenuskirche. The linen and yarn industry had a positive effect on Bünde, but over time, it noticeably lost its importance. That is why the birth of the local cigar and smoking tobacco production in 1842 was groundbreaking and significant. This is still clearly visible in many places today. Magnificent villas in the city center provide a tangible impression of the lifestyle of the former cigar manufacturers. The sociability still takes center stage in the event center "Stadtgarten" as it did back then. The Tobacco Cycle Route focuses more specifically on the "heyday" of this industry. Not all buildings along the route are registered monuments, but they are nonetheless interesting witnesses from the past. Finally, a small note: Please remember that some of the monuments are privately owned and therefore should not be entered without permission.
The Monument Cycle Route is a circular route of approximately 26 km in length. It starts at the Rad-Info-Treff in front of the bike station at the train station. The showcases there provide information on general and current cycling in Bünde, as well as on events and activities. The Monument Cycle Route guides us through the city center of Bünde and the districts of Spradow, Dünne, Muckum, Holsen, and Ahle. The map in the envelope gives an overview, while the detailed maps in the booklet show the exact route. At the stations, you can read about special or everyday features of the villas, farms, and many other buildings in the text.
