Monument Route Löhne

This circular route showcases many contrasts that the district of Herford offers. Urbanity meets rural seclusion and tranquility. Starting from Löhne train station, you first leisurely ride through Haus Beck and past numerous ancient trees towards Mennighüffen. From Ulenburger Weg onwards, it suddenly becomes quieter and the landscape takes center stage. After a detour to Ulenburg and its mill, you continue through Ulenburger Allee towards Obernbeck. At the end of a short ascent, you are treated to a magnificent view of the Ravensberg Hills. After crossing the Werre river, you reach the Martin Luther Church in Löhne-Ort.
From here, following some inclines near the Heimatmuseum in Bischofshagen, you reach the highest point of the route. Rolling mostly downhill, you enter the valley of the Mittelbach stream, which powers the waterwheel of Rürupsmühle. On the mill's premises, lovingly restored by the "Vom Korn zum Brot" association, you can relax by the mill pond or explore the farmer's garden. The route then leads through Mittelbachsiek, past Kemenas Mühle back to the Werre river. Following the Werre cycle path, you return to Löhne train station, where two impressive cigar manufacturer villas await you just before the finish line. The route mainly runs on lightly trafficked roads, independent cycle paths, and paved agricultural roads, some of which are closed to through traffic. This circular route is also suitable for families with children.
As an alternative starting point, the parking lot at Rürups Mühle is recommended. However, it is also possible to start from any other point along the route. Löhne train station can be reached by Regional Express from Bünde, Herford, and Bad Oeynhausen. Limited bicycle transport is available here.
