Water Castles Route

Discover the attractive landscape of the Eifel, the Jülicher Börde, and the Rhineland Bay by bike, with numerous cultural treasures! Nowhere else will you find so many water castles in such a small area as in the triangle of cities Aachen, Cologne, and Bonn. Over 120 castles and palaces can be discovered along the route. The variety of water castles and palaces points to the diverse history of the region. The route leads through a diverse landscape, along idyllic, natural stream and river valleys, through agriculturally shaped Börde landscapes, and through beautiful low mountain ranges. In addition, there are various historic town centers, numerous monasteries, mills, and other cultural-historical highlights along the route. Another defining element is the Rhineland lignite mining area with its open-cast mine viewpoints and recultivated areas.
