Beyond the border

The hike starts along a section of the long-distance hiking trail "Rothaarsteig". First, we come across the sculpture "No Easy Game" by Ansgar Nierhoff. The sculpture serves as a symbol of the conflict between the historically separated regions of Sauerland and Wittgenstein. Next, we arrive at the sacrificial site "Heidenstock", which commemorates the pagan Saxons. In the valley, there is the first opportunity to stop at the inn "Gut Vormwald". In the beautiful Sauerland village of Oberkirchen, there are also many opportunities to stop and refuel for the ascent. Above Oberkirchen, we find the "Witches' Place", the sculpture by Lilli Fischer. This spot is a reminder of the witch trials. We have reached the small mountain village of Schanze. Here, there is one more opportunity to stop before returning to the parking lot. On the way back, we pass by the sculpture "Krummstab" by the German sculptor Heinrich Brummack. The Krummstab is adorned with the quote: "A power that is too great falls by its own weight" by Martin Luther. Additionally, there is the option to walk along the "Kyrillpfad". The last stretch of the path leads us along the border path until we arrive back at the parking lot.
