Rothaarsteig from Rhein-Weser-Turm to Lützel

The 24m high Rhein-Weser-Tower is the starting point for the Rothaarsteig stage. From the viewing platform you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over the Sauerland and Siegerland regions.
Past the PanoramaPark Wildlife Park Sauerland, you descend into the Schwarzbachtal nature reserve. On the limnological trail in the Schwarzbachtal, you will gain interesting insights into life in and around the stream. In summer, you can collect blueberries along the way and marvel at the pink-white blooming heath.
Through the Haberg nature reserve, you now ascend to the Heinsberger Hochheide with its rich juniper population.
On the Rothaarsteig feeder road towards Heinsberg lies the Heinsberg Aqueduct. The Krenkelbach creek flowing over the aqueduct supplies water to the fish ponds below. At the end of the aqueduct stands a true-to-scale, copper-engraved terrain model, where you can test the functionality of an aqueduct yourself - Rothaarsteig meets physics class!
At Dreiherrnstein, the borders of Nassau, Westphalia, and Cologne used to meet. It is not far from the source of the Ferndorf, a 24km long tributary of the Sieg River, via the Oberndorfer Höhe. Through the Ginsberger Heide, you now head towards the Ginsburg. In 1568, Wilhelm of Orange (Het Wilhelmus), born in Dillenburg, gathered his troops here for the fight for freedom. The Ginsburg is now a popular destination as a lookout tower, not only for Rothaarsteig hikers.
On the final stretch, the Rothaarsteig leads to the Giller (653m) with the steel, 18-meter high Gillerberg tower as a viewpoint. Since 1907, the largest mountain sports festival in Germany has been held here, and since 1991, one of the largest tent festivals in Europe takes place every Pentecost: KulturPur. The destination of the stage is finally the Lützel district of Hilchenbach.
