Varied, with partially spectacular views and naturally lush green, that's how the Kerkener Bruch presents itself to its visitors. The term "Bruch" comes from earlier times when the entire area was much wetter than it is today. High groundwater and clayey soil layers are unsuitable for agriculture, so the area was only used for obtaining firewood and straw. Typically, the villages are lined up at the edges, in the transitional area to the adjacent higher, fertile areas like pearls on a string. This is also the case for most districts of Kerken. In addition to landscape and nature reserves, the marshland area also has archaeological sites, such as the course of the Landwehr in the Eyller Bruch. So there are ideal conditions for interesting discovery tours on a total of 1169 hectares.
