Hiking trail A 6 - Lintel and the Linteler See

This path leads through forest and fields of the former community of Lintel, which now belongs to the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The place name Lintel first appears in the year 1250, when Bishop Engelbert von Isenberg compensated the Cathedral Chapter Johannes in the parish of Wiedenbrück with the tithes of three farms in the hamlet "Linthorne" through a reassignment of the estate in Osterode near Merzen to the Gregorius Vicariate Osnabrück. This is the core of the later community of Lintel in the former district of Reckenberg.
The main farm named "Lintlo" is already mentioned in a document from the year 1234 of the Wiedenbrück city court. Here, two name forms run parallel as designations of the community: once "Linthorne" as a hamlet and "Lintlo" for its main farm. The name of the farm has existed longer. It outlasted the name of the hamlet and later became the community name Lintel. Linguistically, it is to be seen as a grove or forest of linden trees.
