Barrier-free tour: Walk through city and nature

The tour starts at the Tourist Information Kalkar, which is allowed to carry the award "Barrierefreiheit geprüft" according to the criteria of the nationwide designation "Reisen für alle". If necessary, a ramp overcomes the step into this medieval gabled house. The path leads past sights such as the monument "Thorarolle", the historic city windmill, the Jewish cemetery, the pigeon tower, the Dominican Bongert, and runs over the Jakobuswall, formerly part of the city fortifications. To the left of the poplar-lined Jakobuswall flows the stream Ley, and there are always beautiful views from the outside of the city silhouette.
The route runs over paved or well-maintained paths. A barrier is located at the hospital grounds near the mill. Access to the Jewish cemetery is still possible from the Gasthausstege through the covered passage of the Johanna-Hofmann-Haus.
Accessible toilets are located in the historic town hall (accessible during the opening hours of the city administration, 2nd floor, elevator), in the hospital (Grabenstraße 86-88), and at the bakery of the city windmill (always accessible with Euro key).
