North tour Location

The 40.3 km bike tour takes you through the northern part of the city of Lage. It starts in the city center at the marketplace. On this tour, the history of the brickmakers is your companion. Especially the Zieglerbrunnen on the marketplace and the LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage keep the tradition of the brickmakers alive to this day. These highlights can be discovered along the route:
Zieglerbrunnen
The Zieglerbrunnen fountain in the middle of the marketplace is a symbol of the city's brickmaking tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmakrt" was held here, where brickworkers and masters concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February.

St. Johann Market Church
The Market Church was built around 900 AD and dedicated to John the Baptist. It houses one of the oldest church bells in Lippe. The Baroque organ is one of the best in Lippe and dates back to 1707.

Technikum
The Technikum, built in neoclassical style in 1925, served as an engineering school until 1970, where brick engineers were also trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center housing the music school, VHS Lippe-West, and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation.

Sedanplatz
Sedanplatz is a park serving as the "gate" to the city of Lage. It is the last remaining green space in Lippe, originally designed around 1900 as a representative station square. The current landscape is characterized by old trees. The opposite train station, along with Lemgo and Schieder, was one of the most important stations for transporting brickmakers in Lippe.

Hardisser Moor
Hardisser Moor is a nature reserve designated by the Regional Council in 1981. It provides a protected habitat for many different plant and animal species. The main purpose of protection is the preservation, development, and restoration of the valley of the Oetternbach and the immediately adjacent area.

LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage
The Ziegelei Museum keeps an important piece of industrial history alive. The core of the museum consists of the historical factory buildings of the former Beermann brickyard. Here, you can learn more about the work and daily life of the brickmakers in Lippe. The production days of the machine brick factory and the firing process are the highlights in the museum's annual calendar.

Biohof Brinkmann
Biohof Brinkmann looks back on over 40 years of ecological agriculture. The farm offers a package-free store with many farm products from ancient grain species. In addition, regular baking and wild herb seminars are held, and even overnight stays in a cozy trailer are possible.

Schloss Iggenhausen
The former castle is a medieval motte-and-bailey structure. In the park, you will find the region's oldest greenhouse, built in 1860. The manor house, still privately inhabited today, was built between 1856-1865 by the builders August and Friedrich von Blomberg. A historic landscape park with very old trees is located on the property.

Alte Burg
The grounds of the "Alte Burg" were once the residence of the first bailiff of the town of Lage. Additionally, there was a tannery. Today, remains of the buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries have been made visible again, allowing visitors to take a glimpse into Lage's history. The place invites you to linger, where the "Alte Werre" and the "Werre" rivers converge on the edge of the site.
