The bike tour starts in Freden (Leine) and leads along the river Leine on the signposted Leine-Heide cycle path through meadows, fields, as well as charming towns and cities to Elze. In Freden (Leine), before the actual tour begins, a detour to the mystical Apenteich springs located in the forest in Winzenburg is worthwhile. Along the way, there are wonderful views over the Leinebergland and small towns with half-timbered charm, such as Alfeld (Leine), Gronau (Leine), and Elze, invite you to linger. Alfeld (Leine) offers, in addition to many historic half-timbered houses, an imposing town hall in the style of the Weser Renaissance and with the Fagus Factory, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since both Freden (Leine) and Elze have a train station, arrival and/or departure by train are suitable.
