The Osnabrück Land is a region rich in history and has been offering the "best residential location" for centuries.
The large number of castles, palaces, and manor houses between the ridges of the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehen Hills is therefore hardly surprising.
You can explore the "noble estates" on your tour in the eastern Osnabrück Land. Many of them are privately owned and are not always accessible to the public.

Starting in Melle, passing through St. Annen with its formerly important pilgrimage church, you will reach Königsbrück Castle with its exemplary renovated Weser Renaissance facade. One possibility for interior visits: occasional concerts take place here.
Water Castle Sondermühlen south of Melle lives up to its name: it is still completely surrounded by moats, a stone bridge leads to the gatehouse.
Passing through Gesmold Castle with its baroque garden and picturesque overall view, you will reach the holiday area of Bissendorf; also a region rich in castles.
Ledenburg is idyllically hidden in the forest; also located in the forest, you will find the ruins of Holter Castle. It is - next to Iburg - the only high medieval hill fort in the Osnabrück Land.
Now, do not be deterred by a little elevation in the terrain, the water castle Schelenburg is undoubtedly worth the trip.
A medieval residential tower and a Renaissance annex combine wonderfully in this building.
Heading north, the landscape continues to be particularly beautiful; you can see the Mittelland Canal and Lake Kronen, possibly take a refreshing swim, or cool off in the cool interior of the half-timbered church of Gut Arenshorst.
Driving towards Schloss Hünnefeld near Bad Essen under a shady avenue. Here you can visit the café and catch a distant glimpse of the wonderful English landscape park behind the castle. Unique in this area is the baroque dovecote from 1710.
Shortly thereafter, you will reach the now internationally known Ippenburg due to its garden festivals along the tour.
The neo-Gothic castle is surrounded by a magnificent English garden filled with lush perennials, roses, and many other plants. Visits are possible during the festivals.

Be sure to pass through the spa town of Bad Essen characterized by half-timbered houses and take the time to visit the dinosaur tracks in Barkhausen.
Then you will approach Melle again. Here you will pass Gut Ostenwalde with a water mill and a three-winged manor house, perhaps encountering a wild boar in the Meller Mountains.
