Steinhuder Meer Circular Path

Attention: The circular route is partially flooded in the area of the Meerbruchswiesen and therefore not continuously passable.

In the holiday region of Steinhuder Meer, cycling is the most popular leisure activity alongside swimming. No cyclist will miss the opportunity to circle the Steinhuder Meer at least once on the excellently developed circular route. The approximately 32-kilometer tour connects the surprisingly numerous cultural and, above all, scenic highlights at the lake. So you can easily spend a whole day on and off the circular route.

On this route, you will traverse diverse landscapes by bike or on foot, which frame the large lake like a sparkling gemstone. The shoreline will change its shape several times during your hike. Sometimes it's trees lining up directly at the water's edge, sometimes it's reed belts, then the flat extension of a large dune pushes into the water and forms a fine sandy beach. You move in the shade of a forest, which eventually opens up into wide marsh meadows. Later, you will reach a jungle-like alder carr forest, a paradise for song and water birds, which you are allowed to enter on a paved walkway.
