Description by the author

Through the nature reserve "Walterbachtal" flows the natural stream "Walterbach". Riparian forests as well as species-rich beech and oak-hornbeam forests populate the area. Of particular importance are the springs and wet areas. The stream valley is a habitat for amphibian populations and serves as a breeding, resting, and feeding ground for numerous bird species.

The excellent quality hiking trail begins in the district of Nienstedt in the city of Bad Münder, also known as "the pearl in the Deister", first mentioned in 1193. The path runs along the natural stream and through meadows, forests, and fields.

From the Hassel parking lot, you start directly into the lovely Walterbachtal. Walking parallel to the stream, you head west on narrow natural paths. This area is also part of the long-distance hiking trail from Bennigsen to Lauenau and the path "330 Sehmeilen um Hannover". At times, you also walk on the Söltjerweg, which leads around the borders of Bad Münder. Through deciduous forest, past particularly beautiful meadow edge zones, you cross the stream and reach the small hamlet of Waltershagen.

After a few minutes, impressive views open up into the Deister-Süntel Valley. The path now follows the old post road from Lauenau to Bad Münder, whose old fortification is still partially visible. Shortly before Eimbeckhausen, you have the opportunity to turn off to visit the unique German Chair Museum and to dine in the various gastronomy establishments. The district of Eimbeckhausen was a center of the chair industry in the previous century. The remarkable church from the 12th century is the oldest building in the village. The path then leads from Eimbeckhausen, past the farms of the former independent commune of Milliehausen, and meets the "Hasselweg". This path now runs past fields to the north towards Nienstedt. A monument in a small grove commemorates the citizen Ludwig Schlepper. The path offers magnificent views of the Deister.
Shortly after, you enter the Hassel forest and reach the starting point of the hike again.
