The Salzgittersee is located on the western edge of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, where the rivers Fuhse and Flothe merge. It was created from 1960 to 1975 due to gravel mining. The lake is about two kilometers long and 800 meters wide. The island in the lake can be reached via a strikingly designed bridge on the western side of the lake. The Salzgittersee offers many opportunities for sports enthusiasts as well as nature lovers.
